The PADI Enriched Air Diver
The PADI Enriched Air Diver course (also known as Nitrox) is PADI's most popular specialty, teaching divers to use breathing gas with higher oxygen and lower nitrogen content (like 32% or 36%) to extend bottom time, shorten surface intervals, and reduce nitrogen loading, thereby increasing no-decompression limits for repetitive dives, with training covering theory, equipment, and cylinder analysis, often requiring only online learning and a brief practical session with an instructor, as no open water dives are usually needed.

What You Learn
- Setting your dive computer up to calculate your no decompression limit with different blends of oxygen
- Planning dives with enriched air
- How to analyze a cylinder's oxygen content
- Oxygen safety considerations
No dives are required for this specialty, but it does include in-person instructor training.
Prerequisites
- PADI Open Water Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another training organization) or enrolled in PADI Open Water Diver course
- 12 years or older
- Complete the required paperwork
Requirements
- Students are required to complete all academic requirements prior to the classroom session.
